Back mouse gesture is duplicating tab instead, if done while a page is loading

Has anyone else seen this behavior? It has been doing this for awhile and I've put up with it, but it is getting old.
This only seems to happen when a page isn't finished loading, but the usual back (hold right button, swipe left) gesture often duplicates the tab which is loading instead of going back a page. It's not every time, but it's very frequent.
After the page has fully loaded... refreshing and then gesturing back while it's still refreshing, it does not seem to happen. I guess it's the first time a page is loading, and it probably impacts slowly loading pages more than fast ones.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? The only thing I can figure might be happening is that I'm starting the gesture from a LINK instead of a blank area of the page, and it's just too quick to see. If that's the case it would be nice to be able to turn gestures off for links specifically (can we?)
