VPN connection

Dl'd Opera 40. Enabled the VPN option. It stays orange indefinitely and just says connecting......works fine with VPN off... I'm running Kaspersky KIS 2017
Any suggestions as to wht to try?

not knowingly.... standard ADSL BB / default router + AV. I have 2 other browsers installed and have used stock installations of them without problem...
If it makes any difference the vpn server location drop down has no options to choose from...
