If you click the 3 dots at the bottom of the sidebar and set the bookmarks panel to open the full bookmarks page, ctrl + shift + b will open the opera://bookmarks page instead with the search field focused. That might be an alternative for now.
As for the panel, for now, as an alternative to focusing the search field with the mouse, you can hit tab a few times to focus the field.
