I use an add in to generate secure passwords, and have now lost access to an email account because Opera doesn't automatically save passwords, and the popup asking if I want to save password a) disappears very quickly, and b) is so discrete that I don't even notice it if I'm not being intentional. I've recently switched from Chrome, so I'm not used to passwords being auto-saved. This seems a no brainer?
I saw one comment saying passwords aren't saved automatically in case you enter the wrong password and that gets saved. However, this is only a risk for existing/repeated passwords that you are manually typing in (and thus either already remember or have a record of somewhere), which means you can easily rectify this. So on balance, the current system of not saving passwords is significantly more risky, especially when dealing with something like creating a new email account. I now have to contact the IT department at my organisation in order to reset the password, which is a very unprofessional start.
