I downloaded this browser some months ago, and I think it's time I bust out the megaphone and start harping, because if I don't, I'll end up just losing my patience and going back to another browser.
First, let's start by noting that the functionality of the browser is fine. It works. But beyond "it works", it really does get on my nerves. I'll try to itemize the issues I've been having. Maybe I'm just being picky, or maybe I'm onto something. Who knows.
The app integration is very bad. Twitter, Instagram, TikTok -- they all work worse than the typical browser controls, which are already miles behind the actual mobile apps. Taking something that already kinda doesn't work great and making a more brokener version seems like a curious step.
The password manager gets confused way more often than I ever remembered my past browsers when trying to auto-fill sign in fields. It's a wild ride, for sure, clicking on what seems to be a pre-filled log-in only to be told that it's the wrong password because the password manager input the wrong credentials! How does that even happen!
This one is getting under my skin, but if you pause a YouTube video and then switch to another tab, switching back can cause the whole page to refresh, forcing the video to restart from the beginning.
Websites that would never log me out automatically on past browsers, now need to be logged back in regularly. I double checked with my Firefox browser to see if those sites just started implementing a policy of logging out users between sessions, and nope - it's an Opera issue.
This one is annoying me the most, and it's the GX Corner specifically. See, you can customize what is displayed on that page. You get sections that advertise games, list upcoming titles, and show off sales and such, as well as specialty sections that show video content or some other intrusive thing, and then lastly is the news feed. Well, I set the page to show nothing but the upcoming list and the news feed... except that every few days, Opera updates itself, rotates the list of sections, and auto-enables new sections -- forcing me to go into the settings every few days and uncheck them so they don't show up. This is intrusive and wastes my time and bandwidth. Having a list of upcoming game titles is not worth the endless invasive advertising campaigns.
The gaming news feed has entirely vanished. Now, the only remaining reason to stick with Opera appears to have been removed.
The entire GX Corner doesn't even work on iOS. You just get a blank page. I am not sure if this is a bug or a feature.
As you can imagine, I'm starting to wonder whether these problems are going to be addressed, or whether I'm better off returning to the eternal hunt for a decent browser.
