i stopped it so its not an active issue but somehow opera gx redirected me away from paypal and took me to an unsecured page. the page then sent push notifications to my phone and to my windows stating that my device's have gotten a virus. as i am aware broadly of this style of attack i turned my internet off and verified via windows control that the claims were false. once i had done this i closed the notifications. to get more info the notifications that were appearing were from the operagx client and displayed both windows and operagx logos. for my phone it seemed to be attempting to set custom calendar alerts. im not so clear how it was sending the notifications to my phone.
ill say also the fact i was trying to go to paypal might have been unrelated- it is just the case that i looked away and when i looked back what had loaded was not paypal lol
it is also my memory that i might have interacted with a prompt from operagx asking me to refresh the page, or relog the page- something that i now think was likely part of the attack and not part of actual operagx
