Re: Audible for Opera Player
Not everyone likes to listen to music as their browsing the web. I first began using the Opera GX browser last year after many of my remote working friends hyped it's many features, such as the Opera Player, since I am someone who has many things going on as I am browsing the web. Typically I am watching Youtube videos for research, which makes the popout feature a top choice, but sometimes I am listening to an audiobook or podcast and wanting to take notes. When I listen to music in the Opera Player vs opening another tab, I notice a significant improvement in browsing speed. As a user, I believe other options such as Audible and Apple Podcast integration to the Opera Player would make this feature even more popular than it already is.
Audiobooks and podcasts have become a growing source of revenue for streaming companies, with Spotify noting just last year that the number of podcasts on their platform grew 8 times between 2019 and 2022. However, Spotify is only one possible place to listen to podcasts. Many podcasters prefer Apple Podcasts or Google Podcasts (both excellent integration options) for the better exposure those platforms provide, and podcast listeners also have preferences of their platform.
In addition, with the growth of audiobook revenue in the US jumping 113% in the last five years, Audible is another great option for integration as it is the top platform for audiobook listeners, with the world's largest audiobook collection at over 475,000 books in 2019, compared to Spotify's 300,000; Audible also offers different levels of subscriptions which give some upgraded users a chance to have unlimited access to over 11,000 titles, without spending extra money or their monthly credits.
I am looking forward to seeing what Opera has planned in the new future!
