I had the same issue, there may also be a lighting service running too and using more resources than expected.
ASUS Armory Crate was fighting with GX lights. I uninstalled armoury crate and it works fine now.
If you depend on armoury crate it might be worth it to mess with the GX lights settings and see if there's a way to deal with it without uninstalling.
