The compositing bug was solved today in the latest opera-developer version, along with the dark theme one.

Thanks for the heads up, 2602 appears to work for me without the black borders as well (xfce4, no compositing).

Also present on Arch Linux. Have tested Intel, AMD, and Nvidia gpu; if compositing is off these borders show up.

The adblock list comes down via json over HTTP. The list will occasionally trip IDS/IPS because the adblock rules contain strings to block malicious or aggressive marketing.
Presently Opera makes a GET request for JSON data to the hostname get.geo.opera.com.global.prod.fastly.net in the clear. I will tune the IDS, however there is no reason why this should not be going over HTTPS.
