This is happening to me too. I'm also using a Mac trackpad on a fairly new M1 mac so I don't think age has to do with it. Very frustrating when it automatically clicks to open in a new window.
Edit: Adding a gif of the issue. You can see the link gets copied, but I'm only ever clicking once each time. I paste the link into the search bar at the end. https://imgur.com/a/7SIZB5k
