@burnout426 I have done most of these steps. I created a new profile when I installed Opera on this laptop a few weeks ago. I just tried the password management flag change you suggested with no success. I deleted all saved cookies for Opera and the sites I'm trying to login but not for the other sites.

RE: Unable to override autofilled new password on websitesGeneral
@burnout426 -Start Opera Stabile 121.0.5600.38 installed on Windows 11.
-Enter the URL of a bank or health care company that you already have an account with (It's possible it needs to be a site that requires 2 factor authentication but I'm not sure)
-Navigate to the website's login screen. This varies depending on the website.
-Instead of signing in, click on "forgot password" or "new password" or "reset password" . This varies by site.
-Enter your existing user ID
-Follow directions for 2 factor authentication
-On the new password screen you should see "new password" and "confirm Password" field
-Place cursor in "new password" field
-Opera immediately fills both fields with a generated 15 character "strong" password
-Once these fields are filled, it is not possible to override the generated password with the password of your choice.
-The fields are locked and the only possible action is Continue. Opera saves the generated passwords

RE: Unable to override autofilled new password on websitesGeneral
@jehill12 I think a PW change needs to be initiated on the website. Otherwise how would the site know the change is valid. Once changed on the website, it can then be editted in Opera PW settings but not before. These critical websites like health and financial are not going to cede PW security control to a browser on a laptop that anyone can hack into. That's why they implemented 2FA so that they can double check the identity of the user initiating the change. Most financial and healthcare sites now require 2FA and that can't be handled by browser settings, only manually.

@jehill12 PW change buttons for most sites are on the login screen or if already logged in, on the accounts tab.

@leocg I tried changing the password at opera://password-manager/passwords and the website would not allow me to login.

RE: Unable to override autofilled new password on websitesGeneral
@leocg and I don't see how that would result in the required password change on the 3rd party website. The function you describe appears to be only within Opera. Go to a 3rd party website and before logging in, click on "change password". That initiates the dialog I am having a problem with. Or if you are already logged in, go to your website account profile and select change password there. Same thing happens .

RE: Unable to override autofilled new password on websitesGeneral
@leocg yes, I can see the old password by doing what you said but I don't think the actual password can be changed there. It is in the new password dialog that the problem occurs . I am new to Opera but I don't think you can just edit out the old password . That would be very marginal security .

@leocg new password fields are not edittable. Fields won't accept any entry or placement of cursor
