There's no bad spots on the disk, neither is there any file corruption, all this was already checked. There may be a file missing or damaged in the profile itself because some data didn't get written during closing of OperaGX but that is more an 'incomplete' state than actual corruption from a crash (it didn't crash, it just gave the msg about access rights which could just as well be caused by an erroneous file lock. Windows10 is known to sometimes have issues with file locks not being released properly.

Be that as it may, whether or not a file is incomplete, the end result is always that the whole profile is deleted immediately after I start Opera and a fresh one is created. even in the 'standalone' version. This is something I have issues with... why kill everything just because (very likely) one file may be incomplete. So I've abandoned Opera as this has now happened one too many times... I'd rather use a browser that allows me to salvage things in such cases by simply copying in files of which I'm certain are complete
