How do I install an earlier version?Opera for Linux
mint 17 qiana.
Some of you may of seen another thread of mine regarding how i can no longer open various types of files, exe being one.
This has been happening for quite some time now so i thought i'd completely get rid of Opera and then reinstall it.[12.16] I did this but it didn't alter the problem.
I then decided to download version 11.60 in case an earlier version may help?
However as i'm absolutely useless with all things to do with computers, and especially anything to do with linux, i don't know how to install it!
I clicked on a folder named 'opera' and amongst the files in it there is one looking like a big cog.[also named opera.] I presume this is the one that i need to click on?
When i did i was told 'file is not supported.'What can i do? I feel like i'm going to have to abandon Opera for good, it seems like the only choice i have.
I've been using Opera for years now and would rather not stop using it.Thank You.

Getting rid of an email account.Opera for Linux
I tried to open another operamail account earlier and got to the point where i had to go to the inbox in the new account to verify everything.
However each time i try to login i am told i'm using the wrong p/w or username.[which i'm not.] I just gave up on the whole idea in the end, and opened an account somewhere else.
The trouble is that every 5 minutes a box appears on the screen telling me 'authentication failed' and that there is a 'lookup error, cancel/try again.'
I can't verify the account as i cannot login to get the email sent to me.
Is there a way to delete this account?
Thanks. -
RE: Cannot download anymore.Opera for Linux
Linux Mint 17.
I updated opera a few yrs ago and lost all bookmarks, notes, etc, so that has made me reluctant to do it again. Although you are right of course.

RE: Cannot download anymore.Opera for Linux
Things have changed again. Whereas i'd be able to get to the 'download' page before everything halted, i now can't even get to that.
Anything that i click on that says download just doesn't work anymore, the whole thing stops there. I've tried to open all types of files and its the same thing. -
RE: Cannot download anymore.Opera for Linux
Just tried to get my free HD music sampler from HD Tracks and got the same old message: 'No run action specified for files of this type (application/x-bittorrent) - you can set a run action by choosing `Set Run Action' from the File menu, or you can just drag the file to an application.'
This is really pissing me off! I've gone to preferences/downloads/etc and followed instructions on how to fix this but it doesn't work.
Why is it the same when i use other browsers? -
RE: Cannot download anymore.Opera for Linux
Thanks.
Version 12.16, isn't that the latest? If it is then i'm stuffed!I got this message yesterday when i tried to open up some software.
'application/x-ms-dos-executable'Its all to do with 'preferences/advanced/downloads' isn't it?

RE: Cannot download anymore.Opera for Linux
I got this message before.
No run action specified for files of this type (application/x-rpm) - you can set a run action by choosing `Set Run Action' from the File menu, or you can just drag the file to an application. How do i find out which version of opera i have?
-
RE: Cannot download anymore.Opera for Linux
I just tried 2 other browsers to see if it made a difference but they didn't.
I follow the instructions to fix this problem yet it never works! -
RE: Cannot download anymore.Opera for Linux
I've followed some instructions to enable opera bittorrent, and then with it off as well, but still cannot download anything anymore.
Preferences/Advanced/Downloads. Typed 'torrent' in the box and then double clicked application/x-bittorent. -
Cannot download anymore.Opera for Linux
I'm trying to start downloading some files[mp3s] using Tixati, however they won't move over to Tixati like they've always done in the past.
When i double click a file on the 'downloads' window so that Tixati automatically starts up, i get:
'No run action specified for files of this type (application/x-bittorrent) - you can set a run action by choosing `Set Run Action' from the File menu, or you can just drag the file to an application.'I am doing the same thing as i have always done, and i've never had this message before. I've used Tixati with Opera for many years and it's always been fine.
I went to look on 'files' like the message told me, however i cannot find 'set run action.'
Can someone help please? -

RE: all text has vanishedOpera for Linux
thanks for that.
well i did what you said and then i reinstalled opera again. this time i did indeed get a fresh install, BUT!
even though it is definitely not my previous opera browser, the same thing is happening! i can't believe it!
i do have a screenshot but i don't know how to post the thing. -

RE: all text has vanishedOpera for Linux
i didn't change anything to do with the fonts, not sure about encoding, not sure what that is!
i uninstalled opera and then installed it again but it doesn't come back as a fresh intall, all my bookmarks are still there as well as this fault.
it would be difficult to change anything as like i said, the text has gone. -
all text has vanishedOpera for Linux
i've just updated from linux mint 16 to 17 and i had to install opera again.
everything was going well, i was ticking and unticking boxes. i was in the appearance menu box when suddenly all the words just disappeared!
not only in appearance but everywhere within the browser, bookmarks, etc. there are a few thing in their places such as some _ _ ... also +12 +11, all very sparse.
i must of accidently unchecked something i shouldn't of? surely that is the only explanation?
i wonder what it can be?
thanks -
opera behaving like its a new install[again!]Opera for Linux
turned the pc on this morning and lo & behold i've once again lost all my notes and bookmarks.
speed dial was showing even though i always have it hidden.
its like its a brand new install.
this is the 2nd time this has happened!i'm so close to abandoning opera even though i've used it for many years. i don't know which other browser i'd use thats suitable for linux mint.

new version of opera without asking for it, lost everythingOpera for Linux
we had a power cut an hour ago. once it came back on i started the pc to find big changes.
there was a different opera browser[for linux] installed!
all the bookmarks and notes i'd saved over a long period of time have now vanished! all the settings i had are gone.
i cannot believe it. i'm really fuming about this.i don't know what version of opera i now have, i presume its the latest as the bookmark menu is now hidden away.
why did this happen?
was the loss of electricity anything to do with it?
any way of getting my notes and bookmarks back?i've read these forums and i've seen lots of users pissed off at opera, however this is the first time i've been so annoyed myself. the first time i've thought about giving opera away after all these years.
they have no right to take your current opera version away and replace it, or is that somewhere in the preferences that needs to be un-ticked?why can't they leave the browser alone? they're always fiddling around with the thing. adding stuff, losing stuff, thinking that is just what we want them to do.
things don't need to be constantly tweaked!
sometimes when things work well they need to be left alone. what is wrong with these people? -
very slow at loading sites.Opera for Linux
i've been using linux mint for only a few weeks, and while i like it, its so slow a lot of the time.
so i'm presuming its not the OS but my opera browser, 12.16?
can i improve the speed a little? -
RE: small scroll bars.Opera for Linux

the scroll bars are like a few millimetres in width, far too small.
