[Request] VPN Auto-ON / Per-TaB / Whitelist / BlacklistSuggestions and feature requests
Hi,
It's been requested many times and formulated in different ways over the years and some progress has been made about it (VPN bypass rules). A search of thе term "vpn" in the requests section shows many posts with essentially the same request:
Whatever you want to call it, it would be great if it were made possible for the user to automate the usage of VPN feature. Granted - a list of sites to bypass the VPN is already implemented, however there are a few problems with it:
1 - you have to add each site 1 by 1, which is a lot of work and very slow and inefficient. Maybe add an option to add multiple entries or even a txt file with a list of sites?
2 - what if from hundreds of sites a person visits, they only use VPN for 1 of them, but visit it tens or hundreds of times daily? Wouldn't it be better if they could add just this one site for which the VPN to auto-activate, instead of making a list of hundreds of sites which to bypass it?
Now - I know it's a different feature and it has also been requested numerous times, but since it's actually being requested for the same reason, I'm just going to go and add that an option for VPN ON/OFF keyboard shortcut is long long overdue.
Reasoning behind the requests:
1 - I'm going to start with the most obvious one - disability. Whatever form of disabiliy a person might have, automation and ease-of-use is their friend. And even if you're not disabled - it's still much easier to press one button or a key combination. Currently you need to pinpoint a button to open a menu to pinpoint a toggle to use for one site and then go over it again to deactivate for another site and again and again. On a touchpad that is a lot of work and quickly becomes frustrating and for some people even painful.
For instance I suffer from neck spurs which cause pain in my hand when doing repetative tasks requiring a mouse or touchpad. Every keyboard shortcut is a relief, every automated task - a godsend.2 - common sense. If you think about it this is what computers were made for - automating repetative tasks.
3 - isn't this just the sort of thing why people use Opera? To be honest more than anything I'm surprised it's not implemented by default. It's just so Opera.
4 - When looking at numbers of users requesting a feature you should also take in consideration that actually a very select few will get around to doing something about what's bothering them. That number may have hundreds or even thousands of lazy users behind it, who'll never get to it or even think about submitting feedback or even know they could do that and how. Most people are not that much into computers to think like that. They just want to get something done and not bother with how or if it can be done easier, or "waste" their time with feedback. That doesn't mean they won't benefit from the feature once it's added.
For example the issue with having to use mouse cursor to turn VPN on or off has been bothering me for years and I'm a whiner, my hand hurts and still I'm only now getting around to submitting feedback about it. I can't even imagine how many people won't ever do it.TLDR: Please add solution allowing VPN automation. Be it Per-Tab, whitelisting, blacklisting, reverse-bypass(listing sites to automatically use VPN) and for God's sake add an option to configure VPN ON/OFF keyboard short-cut. People have been wanting these features for at least 5 years. Don't look at the numbers - practically nobody bothers with submitting feedback. That means nothing. Most people just use things as they are.

RE: Disable Automatic UpdateSuggestions and feature requests
@v-m-smith the word "just" just doesn't have place in this sentence. Just is clicking a setting in the app settings, having to "just" do something you have no way of knowing how to do is not something you "just" do. Hey "just" know how the developers made it work, easy-peasy, no problem.

RE: Auto hide tool bar.Suggestions and feature requests
If I understand correctly, he means the address bar, because everything else(except bookmarks) is also bundled up on it.
I've recently noticed that even with so many things being located there, I still rarely use it, and I would also like to see an option to auto-hide it or a configurable shortcut to show and hide it similar to the one available for the bookmarks bar.
I find it quite perturbing that both web and browser developers seem equally unconcerned by the waste of screen space their menues and toolbars cause by being constantly visible in spite of rarely being used, while at the same time, the user is forced to view the actual content on less than 50% of the screen space. Between menues, toolbars, ads, margins and paddings, there's little left for the actual purpose of the whole thing. -
More settings for mouse gestures and tab behavior.Suggestions and feature requests
I'd like an option for drag-and-dropped links to open in new tabs next to the active one, but not become the active one themselves.

Auto-hide for side bar.Suggestions and feature requests
Auto-hidiing sidebar while keeping pinned messenger visible, would be beneficial for optimal use of screen space.

Resizable facebook messengerSuggestions and feature requests
I think FB messenger resize needs some work for proper view of both pinned messenger and web content without sidescrollers.
