Following your suggestion, I set the sidebar to open bookmarks in a panel rather than a new page. This brought up a folder called 'Bookmarks bar' and within that there was another folder called 'Bookmarks'. Within Bookmarks I found the list of my bookmark folders and sub-folders. It was a tedious process but I was able to drag & drop all the bookmarks folders from Bookmarks to Bookmarks bar. I would like to rename Bookmarks bar but the software does not allow that, but at least I can now access my bookmark folders with a single mouse click, albeit with double line spacing, which wastes a lot of screen space (I am still hoping that this will be fixed).

There are still three things that I am very unhappy about:

1. Why did the move from Opera 114 to 115 completely override my existing settings for accessing my bookmarks from the sidebar?
2. Why did all my existing bookmarks disappear in the move to Opera 115?
3. Although I had my Opera bookmarks on another PC & could import them, it will still take me a lot of time to get them completely up to date on my main PC?

In future, I plan not to install any new releases unless I need the new features. In the case of Opera 115 none of the new features are of any interest to me.

Thank you for your las message. It may have been unintended, but a great deal has changed. What I get when I click on the sidebar bookmarks icon (the heart symbol) is quite different in 114 & 115.

114 - I get a list of bookmark folders, unfortunately double-spaced, from which I can select the bookmark I want. It then opens in a new page. The bookmarks display as a list of folders & sub-folders in much the same way as in Windows File Explorer. Once a bookmark has been selected & opened, the menu disappears. I have tried to replicate this in 115 but so far have failed completely.

115 - A new page is opened immediately, with icons as the default, which I hate. Switching it to list shows the bookmark folders as text but there is no provision to view them as folders & sub-folders on the same screen. This makes the process of finding the bookmark I want more protracted, especially as the default display for EVERY folder & sub-folder is icons, not a list of names. When I find the bookmark I want & open it, the bookmark page remains open, which is quite unnecessary. There does not seem to be any provision to set list as the default rather than icons, or to close the bookmarks page automatically.

I am attaching some screen shots to show you the difference. I hope this convinces you that nothing regarding bookmarks has changed from 114 to 115!

I have recovered my bookmarks from another PC but I hate the messy way that bookmarks are accessed in the latest version of Opera. Is it possible to roll back to the previous version? It was quite satisfactory apart from the double line spacing, which wasted a lot of screen space.

I am an extremely unhappy user and I am considering returning to Firefox. Since I started using Opera some time ago the so-called upgrades have steadily made it worse for me.

There are 19 bookmarks under Speed Dial, the ones that appear when I start a new page, but that is just a few percent of what I had. All the rest are completely missing. I can get most of them from another PC where I still have the earlier version of Opera, but this sort of thing should not happen and I feel quite angry about it!

Also, I do not like the way the bookmarks appear with the upgraded software (what a joke!). Previously I could just click on the bookmarks icon on the side bar and they would show as a list.. I had them organised into subfolders to save screen space, but what appears now is a dogs breakfast!

I am a very unhappy client and glad my thoughts of taking out a paid subscription are on hold.

The version number is 115.0.5322.77. I tried running the previous version, 114.0.5282.235, which was working fine a few hours ago, and the bookmarks have gone from there too. I have made no changes to my system (Windows 10) apart from upgrading Opera in response to a message when I opened it.

Installing the latest release of Opera (15 December 2024) has completely changed how the bookmarks icon in the sidebar works, which I strongly dislike. More seriously, most of my bookmarks that were there before I 'upgraded' have disappeared completely. Is there a way of getting them back?

Kelvin, I wholeheartedly agree. Many of the newer features of Opera are of absolutely no interest to me, especially AI and sharing with other devices. I do not mind if they are included in the package, provided they can be switched off and do not cause software-bloat.

I am very frustrated that the latest version of Opera, under Windows 10, uses double line spacing when viewing a list of bookmark folders, and the bookmarks within folders. It is very wasteful of screen space and quite unnecessary. I had an earlier version of Opera that did not do this and scanning bookmarks was much easier and quicker. This is a very backward step and I hope it can be changed in the next release.
