Where could I find out if this functionality is planned and/or has a release date?
Opera Link apparantly did support this functionality, so maybe it's a 'when'?

I'm sitting here with one Opera 31 with around 20 useful custom search engines and another PC with Opera 31 and currently zero custom search engines, and I'm wondering whether I should wait a little longer until this sync functionality is implemented or copy all the search engines manually...

Or is there another option that i may be missing?

The blog was definitely the right place to search and I went through the changelog of Opera beta 32, and while there are a lot of snychronisation improvements, no search engine sync yet. (I also quickly tried the 32 beta myself, just in case they forgot to write something into the changelog^^)
