Hello dear community,

I am using Opera with the current 71.0.3770.198 version. But since about 2 or 3 update I got these problems:

• Right-Clicking does not work, when I click with my right mouse button no menu appears. And opera kinda freezes, freez is gone when I switch tab or switch window with alt+tab
• The Opera-Menu doesn't open when I click on it
• when you have to many bookmarks there is a >> symbol on the right, which normaly shows the remaining bookmarks. Clicking on it doesn't work either
• when I am on the bookmarks page I can't use the button in the left bottom corner to backup the bookmarks

Are there others with the same problem?

Maybe some developer could look into this, for a fix in future updates.

Rest is running very good, well except the problem with libffmpeg.so (https://forums.opera.com/topic/30254/solved-video-playback-issues/7) but that is another story

Oh, and I use Fedora 32, if that info would be relevant.

I updated to version 72.0.3815.148 from October 21 and now the right-click-menu seems to work.
(even without hardware acceleration activated) Yay.

So, I recommend to update to the latest version.

However there is now a kind of design issue, every time you right-click and the menu starts to open there is a kind of double flickering while opening, happens to the O-Menu too.

But at least you can access the right-click-menu and the O-Menu now.

@namichel Sadly I have to disappoint you. It's an old problem on Opera for Linux, that it does not play back all videos.

I would advice you to play those videos in another browsers or use the mpv-player which can play back those videos with its links, too.

The only solution for this is currently to have Google Chrome installed and replace Operas libffmpeg.so with the one from Chrome...
But you have to do this after every update by Opera.

So according from that linked post copy the libffmpeg.so from

/usr/lib/chromium-browser

to

/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/opera

to replace it.

In Fedora 32, which I currently use, the path to Opera is:

/usr/lib64/opera

in case the mentioned path before should not exist on your system.

Also if you installed the 64-bit version of Chrome then the path would be:

/usr/lib64/chromium-browser

If those paths shouldn't exist too on your system, then try to search for libffmpeg with file searching programs like e.g. catfish.

Sorry that there is no other solution available...

If you are curious why Opera doesn't playback all videos, also the solution there seems to be the same as I mentioned before.

Hm... never knew it was an Opera only problem, always thought it was some kind of "glitch" from the upper panel on my XFCE desktop

But I just tested it with Firefox and there is no white strip in full screen mode...

My current Opera version:
75.0.3969.171

And it's not a youtube only problem, also happens with videos from other sites.

Update:

The white strip is also visible on full screen mode via F11, when the webpage has a dark background, e.g.:

doihaveinternet.com

So, it doesn't seem to be a video problem...

But for full-screen-applications I use since a while just mpv-player, it has an inbuild youtube-dl which allows you to watch also video streams, without the strip in full-screen mode

Recently Opera got more resource hungry while playing videos, so sometimes the videos with higher resolution start lagging, that's also why I use the mpv-player, runs smooth for that. My laptop is rather old, but those videos doesn't seem to lag in e.g. Firefox, so I hope they will fix that sometime.

Maybe we as a community could test this a bit further, regarding the window-manager:

I use XFCE with X11 and get the white strip.

I have the same issue.
I always install Opera from the opera-repo via dnf.

Mid-November I could install opera-developer while having opera-stable installed. Then in December I couldn't update via dnf until I removed opera-developer.
Since then I can't install opera-developer.

And jip, you are right regarding security. I don't use the chrome lib, because I now got used to the fact, that some videos just don't play back in Opera.
And one advantage for me also is, that those autoplay videos on some website don't play anymore in the background, those are sometimes annoying
So I made peace with this function.

Also, when I want to watch a video which opera doesn't want to play, then I switch eiter to Firefox or mpv-player.

@namichel What I found also if you use the method from @l33t4opera, this will only work until Opera jumps to a new major version of Chromium, but seems to work longer then the previous solution

with latest Opera do you mean version 72.0.3815.148?

Although you don't have access to the O-Menu, you can check that version in your terminal by typing:

opera --version

What happens if you press the alt-key, does the menu appear then?

Does it work, when you switch the hardware acceleration on/off and restart?
(you can switch to settings with alt+p)
