@simongwgtn In your “Local State” file, what are the values for “country” and “country_from_server”. They might have to be set to “US” and the language in Opera might have to be set to English (United States) for things to work.
Hi, thanks. Had a look, LocalState file was set to NZ where I am. I backed up the file, changed both Country and Server to US but it kept changing it back. Set my VPN to an obscure server in the US, changed LocalState file to US and it stuck (restarting between all of these). Couldn't find a "Language" setting there. Didn't work, of course.
And....you guessed it, casting (Youtube) worked fine in Chrome, even with my laptop VPNed in another country and TV not.I'm gonna Report A Bug. If I don't get a sensible answer then....bye bye. It's a pity because I like Opera and it has some useful features. I believe it is owned by an evil country anyway so might actually be a good idea getting rid of it.

Opera indeed has casting support.
I'm starting to seriously suspect that it doesn't. I'm now convinced that when I said earlier that I had got it to work - that ONE time - that I was mistaken and was actually using Chrome and got confused. Every single time it works in Chrome, and it never works in Opera.
Can anyone think of anything else? Could they be blocking it in Opera in different countries or something? I have tried all manner of restarts and timing of turning on my TV with laptop, my extensions are not running, I've tried all sorts of wifi sign-ins (my understanding is that casting works direct from device to device anyway) and not starting Chrome in case it is over-riding it in Opera. Never works. Not once. The options don't even pop up. Right click->cast doesn't even appear. Casting button in a video doesn't even appear.
Every time it works in ChromeYears ago I spent AGES trying to get it working in Opera on my Win10 machine and eventually gave up - and it worked perfectly on Chrome
So now I have a brand new laptop. BRAND FREAKING NEW, different brand of laptop, different windows (11), everything is up to date - Windows, Opera. And EXACTLY the same thing happens.
But it works perfectly in Chrome. The prospect of it not being supported in Opera and there is just a conspiracy out there saying that it does is looking seriously likely to me, because this is just &^%$ing ridiculous. It's simply not possible.

My reply's seem not to be showing up on this forum.
I'm finding that in Opera it is completely unreliable. Now the option to cast the page and the cast button is not appearing in videos, even with a clean restart, and it's not extensions that are the problem.
And then I open Chrome and, bang, it works straight away. I'll be moving back to Chrome very soon...

Opera One 122.0.5643.51
Thanks,
It's not doing it now. It wasn't the extensions and a restart didn't fix but now it's not doing it. I'll post again if I can narrow it down.

@simongwgtn Right click on a page > Cast.
You can also click on the casting button on a video.
For goodness sake, Thanks!
I've been right clicking the [youtube] video, which doesn't work, looking for a cast button on the toolbars like in Chrome, and the entire internet seems to think there is an "Enable Chromecast" setting, which just doesn't exist.
Any ideas on how one is to get up-to-date information like this in future? Googling I can't find advice on this topic after about 2019 or so.

Chromecast Support?General
Hi,
The internet keeps telling me that Opera has Chromecast support. I can't find the setting and I can't work out how to cast a tab or youtube to a TV.
I can't even find the topic in this forum that is newer than 5 years ago. It's almost like there is a conspiracy to scrub the topic.
Can someone please confirm (or otherwise) that Opera does not support Chromecast (or miracast?)
Thanks,

Google Search Unresponsive for 10 seconds.General
Hi,
So I just got a brand new Windows 11 HP Elitebook. I've used Opera religiously for about 5 years, so I installed the latest version of opera on it.
The problem is that, particularly google searches, will load the contents fast, but then the tab has the spinny-circle still going, and while the circle is spinning I can't even scroll down the page, making the page utterly useless. Sometimes it will take 10 seconds. Unacceptably long.
If I try exactly the same thing in Firefox or Chrome, they have the spinny-circle probably for half the time, but importantly I can use the page - I can scroll down.
No excuses. Brand new laptop, latest installs, other browsers are fine. If it is still like this in a week then, sorry, but I will abandon Opera.
