Open new tab when double/middle click empty space on tab bar

The title says it all, really - I would very much like the ability to open a new tab when I double click (or single click with the middle mouse button) on the empty space in the tab bar. Currently, middle click has no effect at all, double click maximizes/restores the Opera window. But the function would be very useful, because it can be rather difficult to hit the small "+" sign, especially with higher resolutions. Clicking on the empty space is much easier and the natural thing to do - after all, both Opera 12 and Firefox work this way.
