To the Esteemed Members of the Opera Community and the Opera Development Team,

I, a user of Opera GX, write to express my profound concern regarding the recent changes to the Aria AI assistant. I understand that innovation and progress are essential for any software, but I believe that the removal of Aria from the sidebar and its replacement with the "Ask AI" button represents a step backward for many of us. I am writing this open letter to articulate my concerns, share my experiences, and advocate for the preservation of Aria in its original form.

      The Value of Aria:

Aria, in its previous iteration, was more than just an AI assistant; it was an integral part of our browsing experience. Its presence in the sidebar provided a seamless, intuitive, and readily accessible tool for a wide range of tasks. Here's why we believe Aria was invaluable:

Ease of Access: The sidebar location made Aria instantly available. We could quickly query information, generate content, or summarize articles without interrupting our workflow.

Seamless Integration: Aria felt like a natural extension of the browser. It was designed to work harmoniously with other features, enhancing the overall user experience.

Efficiency: Aria's ability to quickly provide answers and complete tasks saved us valuable time and effort.

Customization and Familiarity: Many users had customized their interactions with Aria, developing a comfortable and efficient way to use the AI assistant. The change disrupts this established workflow.

      My Concerns Regarding the Changes:

The removal of Aria from the sidebar and the introduction of the "Ask AI" button raise several concerns:

Reduced Accessibility: The new button, while accessible, requires an extra step to initiate a conversation, making it less convenient than the sidebar integration.

Disruption of Workflow: The change forces users to adapt to a new interface and workflow, which can be disruptive and decrease productivity.

Loss of Familiarity: The shift to a new interface means losing the familiarity and comfort that many users had developed with Aria.

Potential for Feature Loss: While the new "Ask AI" feature may offer similar functionalities, there is a risk that some of the unique features and capabilities of Aria may be lost or diminished.

      My Wishes and Recommendations:

I, the undersigned, respectfully request that the Opera development team consider the following:

Reintroduce Aria to the Sidebar: We strongly urge the team to reconsider the removal of Aria from the sidebar and reinstate it as a core feature.

Provide a Choice: Offer users the option to choose between the "Ask AI" button and the sidebar-integrated Aria. This would allow users to personalize their browsing experience and maintain the workflow they prefer.

Prioritize User Feedback: Actively solicit and consider user feedback regarding the new AI features and any future updates. The community's voice is crucial in shaping the future of Opera GX.

Preserve Aria's Functionality: Ensure that the core functionalities and features of Aria are maintained and enhanced in any future iterations.
      Conclusion:

I believe that Aria was a valuable asset to the Opera GX browser, and its removal represents a loss for many users. I urge the Opera development team to listen to my concerns, consider my recommendations, and work with the community to ensure that the future of AI integration in Opera GX is user-centric, efficient, and enjoyable. We are passionate about Opera GX and its potential, and I hope that our voices will be heard.

      Sincerely,

A Concerned User of Opera GX
