Quite right, but aas for a separate program I've already got QuiteRSS. Quite a good RSS reader, iyam. It just would be nice to have that sort of stuff integrated in the browser, and the Discover tab seems the place to do that.
But it's not customizable. Opera going anti-consumer too with their content deals?
Since when can you no longer customize every bit and bolt of this browser? That's the sole reason I chose Opera, some 12 years ago! -

over the years, Presto-based Opera had become overloaded with features, a number of them confusing rather than helping our users โ you canโt imagine how many reports weโve gotten from users telling us that their favorite site was broken, simply because they had turned on fit-to-width by accident, for instance.
Unofficially, I'd say the Opera company simply wanted to increase profits by minimizing the costs for development and customer support (including sites like my.opera.com).
Opera is fa more successful on mobile devices than on the desktop, so this is where they are concentrating their efforts now. No wonder Opera 15+ looks and feels like a smartphone browser.
In this vein, I wouldn't be surprised if the Opera stand-alone mail clients never gets updated beyond 1.0, and Linux versions abandoned entirely.

Overload of features is bad design, not too many features. Doesn't mean dumbing down the browser is the solution, because it clearly isn't. But that is still beside the point. The point is Discover, for which I started thinking: what's the point?? Opera is in no poiition to dictate what sort of content goes to my browser, so why on earth would they disable any sort of customization from Discover?
I don't think any other browser has it, so they could make it a USP. Yet, they manage to cripple it by making it impossible to choose which sources are being pulled from. Opera has made some bad desicion in the past year or so, and this is just one more in their repertoire of bad decisions.
@Opera: fix this. Just fix this. I don't care how much money you're getting for all that useless crap content, I'm not reading it anyway. I'm reading the sort of news I'm interested in, not the news that you want me to be interested in. What am I to you now, a product like we are at Google? Just make this stuff customizable! It's called Opera for pete's sake. Opera==customizable, has always been like that, and must continue like that.

And Opera should undoubtedly listen to you because????? Oh, because you've given them your orders. I see. You're a shareholder, no doubt? Opera will definitely be concerned that you are refusing to read their Discover feature. :whistle:

Ridicule frustrated posters all you like - that Opera 15+ has been a disappointment for many users is undeniable.
All it takes to notice that is reading forums like this on.As for the Opera Company, their major sources of revenue have little to do with desktop browsers.
So disgruntling this user base is obviously something they are willing to do. -

LOL...hey, Sawo, I have a reputation to uphold! Gotta work at it, right? Here's a novel thought for ya: if you don't like Discover, DON'T use that feature. What a concept. Sort of like what many did regarding M2. I never bother activating that feature in the older Presto suite because I did not care for the integrated email client. What I didn't do was whine on forums about how horrible M2 was (in my opinion, not shared by many I might add). Here's another thought for you, Sawo: if Opera 15+ is a disappointment for you, don't use it. Continue to use v.12 or 11 OR use another browser. But whining here on the Help forums won't get you squat. You do understand that... right? Opera made its decision (which was its prerogative, not yours or thany's or mine or anyone else's) and Presto is finished. Many of the developers on that team are now gone so there will not be a return to Presto. Oh... and by the way: it was not a business decision. The developers decided that this was the best way for Opera to proceed WHETHER you happen to disagree or agree with their decision. You see... your opinion is merely an opinion as is mine. And your opinion means very little as does mine.
Thany doesn't like Discover. Thany can simply ignore Discover. You don't like me. YOU can simply ignore me. And meanwhile... have a great day.

Because its powerful, customizable and versatile desktop browser is being replaced by a featureless Chrome, dumbed-down clone.I further understand that there are some contributors on these forums who seem to know no greater joy than trying to elevate themselves other others with smug and pointless disparagement. And soon these forums will be purged of silly threads like this one and whiners and complainers can find somewhere else to drown their sorrows so that the forums can be returned to Help forums.
