So you ditched tab preview from standard setup. Why not reuse the feature at another place?
When a tab is closed you could store a preview of its last state. When a user goes to Menu->"Recently closed tabs" a preview of this last state could help quickly finding the desired tab to reopen it.

So you ditched tab preview from standard setup.
The tab preview is also used in the tab menu and when switching tabs with activation order Ctrl + F11.
Additionally, it can be enabled via a setting, to use on mouse over of the tab bar.

And I wasn't actually complaining about the decision, I see that it's a matter of taste. Since I like the previews I enabled them. -

Nothing wrong in being content with one's own work. I just thought it might as well be practicable to get the preview when long-clicking the back button where you get the list of previous websites.
