disable auto-suggest/autocomplete in address bar

In both FireFox and Chrome, you can delete visited web sites from address bar. What is the point in having a privacy mode if the web site your concealing shows up up in the address bar. My wife typed in Martha Stewart and up pops "Married and Fucking." Needless to say, she did not find the recipes she was looking for.
