Opera Mini 8 on Nokia Asha phones

I am currently using Opera Mini 8 on a Nokia Asha 311 (s40 operating system).
With Nokia's own web browsers (standard browser or Nokia XPress), I can swipe from the top of the screen to get a drop-down menu allowing limited functions (make a call, send an SMS, turn phone to silent, etc.) without needing to close the browser. The same menu is available in a number of other apps.
However, I cannot work out how to get this menu with Opera Mini; instead I am forced to close it completely to access one of these other features.
Can anyone suggest a solution?
(I note that Opera may be taking over development of the Nokia browser, https://forums.opera.com/topic/4666/opera-mini-on-nokia-phones. If this happens, the swipe-down menu functionality should be made the default.)

Thanks for your response, 53-north.
However, the Asha 503 uses a different operating system (Asha operating system from the Asha 311 (s40).
Can you tell me which version of Opera Mini you are using?
