Well, that's Microsoft for you. They just love the Money Bank. Hate my guts cuz. You should realize people didn't want to leave Windows 7. And Microsoft is trying to destroy it completely. Linux mint has never been noticed back in Windows 7 or XP they just got born. Now there is a new ballpark. the only way Linux mint will be something if they reach the stores. like Walmart or Best buy. And tell people that Linux mint is better than Windows, that they cannot afford to spend their money on a upgradable thing there are people that cannot afford to upgrade to Windows 11 there's some people. What I would consider if Linux mint continue to improve and become more dominant to Windows it probably would be known even more

I can tell you I can see Linux got a special tool and that's Linux mint. If I'm right, if they continue to improve down the future it would be a competitor to Windows of a new arrival. Just look at AMD and Nvidia. they are competitors they're facing off with each other. look at epic games and Apple they are competitors they're facing off with each other. For Windows they had plenty competitors and they all failed but as for Linux it still hangs on. And I'm looking at Linux mint. It will be a competitor to Windows in the future. I can see it Windows is probably watching Linux mint and waiting for it to rise to be a competitor to window. That's why I'm waiting for to find out who is better. Windows has not having ever had a competitor that is great. for Apple. I don't see Windows and Apple look like competitors that much they're mostly just trying to improve their graphics and all that what I'm looking at for Linux mint.

I've been an Opera user since version 6 or 7. When it switched to using webkit/blink, I stuck with the old version for a while, then shifted to Firefox. Chrome has always had it's woes. Once Opera was mostly back, I switched back, then bam "Opera GX" was released and I immediately loved it. Unfortunately, I can't stand Windows, and found myself leaving Windows for Kubuntu (I couldn't bare changing to Windows 11, and have been using Kubuntu for years on other machines anyway), but I knew this would bring with it the lose of Opera GX for me.

If only you could bring the most customisable browser to the most customisable platform - Linux!

@miliardo Make sure to upvote the first post above. There are only 46 votes so far.

Folks need 5 reputation to do that... which means fresh accounts can't go on and upvote. My ancient account apparently doesn't have 5 rep, so I can't upvote this.

The views and the comments are the only reliable metric considering these restrictions.

On Linux, there is an app called Wine (Acronym for "Wine is not an emulator") which runs Windows apps on Linux; So, if you want Opera GX on Linux then you have to install Wine then learn how to use it, after which you have to download Opera GX Windows and install it via Wine.

@Ryan-Goyal If you read back through the thread, quite a few have suggested Wine, however you'll also see many reasons why Wine is actually not only not good enough, but actually entirely inappropriate for such a browser.

A quick recap on the points so far:

              • Opera GX is built to be super efficient, but running it in Wine loses all those efficiencies
              • Opera GX is built to accommodate restrictions on its use of hardware, but this doesn't work on Wine
              • Vivaldi is a different browser, and is an alternative, not a solution. https://vivaldi.com/
              • Firefox GX is also a different browser, an alternative, not a solution. https://github.com/Godiesc/firefox-gx
              • Opera GX is built to be super customisable and efficient, like Linux, so the number of potential Opera GX users on Linux far outstrips the number of potential Opera GX users on Windows
              • Linux users are more likely to be adventurous with their browser choices than Windows or Mac users
              • More and more gamers are switching to Linux, including the growing popularity of things like the Steam Deck which runs on Linux
              • It's next to impossible to see the popularity of this request due to the requirement for unobtainable reputation to be able to up-vote the request. Instead, the number of views and replies should be the giveaway: 5 years, 200+ replies from 136 participants, and nearing 300k views - it's probably one of the longest running threads that is still active (I can't confirm this, I would need to scan a lot of forum to find that out).

I switched to Brave because i got tired of waiting. that and the built in adblock would jib out a lot. the UI of opera is nice but the UX is tainted (for lack of a better term)
the reason why we haven't got a Linux OperaGX is because apparently the gaming community isn't as big, which yeah that's sort of fair but they do realize there's an early market advantage right? nevertheless i stopped using it and just use Browser extensions in tandem with Tamper Monkey and sorta built out my own and functionally better browser.
Funny what malicious compliance does to a mofo

Add another message, to express that there is a market for such a browser on Linux

It's been 5 years of people requesting, I wonder if there is anyone from Opera monitoring these forums???

I use Linux and a Mac and really hate to use another browser on the Linux while my primary browser has beeb GX for so long. Please someone with power, listen to these folks who have been patiently requesting since 2020 for this browser to be available on Linux.

I too signed up just to request this! +1 for Opera GX on Linux
