Through all the complaints about function, what good does ANY of this do if we can't see what we are doing? The edge of the Opera window blends in with other windows. The tabs are impossible to make out. What can be done to make this appealing?

In short, nothing at all.
The lack of borders around the opera's window is due to opera using its own csd and not the system's window manager, which (among other stuff like the min/max/close buttons) provides borders for the windows you have open.
