Where do I click to allow moving the application to a 'workspace up/down'? Gnome desktop normally uses a right-click. I do not get a context menu when I right-click "pretty much anywhere" on the Opera window.

It seems you have found one more of the "perks" of csd. In short, opera uses its own cliend side decorations, overriding the ones from your window manager and thus missing the options you need.
I have not noticed it until today because I use the right click > move to X desktop option only for my terminal windows.For more info please check my thread here

Alternatively...
You have to configure the GNOME shortcuts to up o down workspaces, I have configured it with Ctrl + up and down
