Why Opera Touch needs Gplay to run?

I was testing Opera Touch on one of my old mobiles that I use for try out and it tells me that doesn't want to work because it doesn't have the GPlay.
Being a testing phone I loaded LineageOS and this time without the GApps. I've had some apps try to load the GPlay (web) but this is the first time that I find a direct dependence on the GPlay.
Could you tell me why it happens?

I'm using an Android versiรณn 8.1.0.53.41 (Oreo) on a SailFish OS 3.0.3.10 Device (Hossa, more infor about this new OS developed by Ex-Nokia Developers at https://sailfishos.org) and I am facing the same issue.
In my case SailFish OS do not share information as tipical Android devices does, because it creates a virtual machine for android apps in order to keep safetly my information from Google and their Shared Services, Google Services is not supported by SailFish OS Android's adaption.
I hope Opera could change this kind of validation, or I'll have to say bye too this awesome browser and just install another browser which works without Google Services; Since I have been an old user from this browswer I took my time to express this Issue, hopping Opera remove that dependence.
warm regards.
