This has been a longstanding problem with opera. This fixed worked for me.

Edit launcher
Change Command to:

opera %U --new-window --start-maximized

@tedhelp Its a nice workaround, but it still has at least two downsides:

• on every opera update you have to re-enable it
• when u click on a hyperlink elsewhere, the window gets shrunken again from maximized to default

Any fix for this fix?
