a) Gnash is an crappy opensource alternative for the NPAPI version of flash. On top of that, it is identified by pages as flash vesrion 12 or so, so many pages do now work properly. Do not use it unless you are really obsessed with free-only software. But, by using opera, I can assume you are not
b) Npapi plugins are used by firefox and other browsers whose share is < 0.01%. Chromium based browsers, like opera, use the PPAPI versions of flash, so installing gnash is pointless.
c) In order to install the ppapi version of flash in debian, you must install package "pepperflashplugin-nonfree" from the repos. I find this package to be poorly maintained, so, a few years ago, I asked Christian Marillat (owner and maintainer of deb-multimedia.org) to make a better package for it and include it in his repo. He did and, if you decide to use deb-multimedia.org, install "flashplayer-chromium" from it instead of pepperflashplugin-nonfree from the debian repo.
d) The videos on facebook and on many other sites do not depend on flash to play since the wider adoption html5. The reason they do not play on opera is due to opera's libffmpeg poor html5 support. Please read the thread on my signature for more info.
e) Since you are on debian like me, which does not package chromium ffmpeg codecs, there is no real solution to your problem, so I suggest you use another browser for these sites.
I hope I left no question unanswered
