Opera should not preload unselected sites

Opera 53.0.2907.57 seems to want to preload everything in the bookmarks. There should be some way to turn off that behaviour if that is the default. If I merely pulled down the bookmarks menu, it was asking to load all kinds of pages which I did not want. I think it managed to preload quite a few pages anyway. When I triggered the data cleaning extension to clear out the private data, it took much longer than was usual with previous versions. With over 800 bookmarks, there is no way that behaviour is practical.
I have gone back to the previous version because this one is just causing too many problems.

"Predict network actions to improve page load performance" (under privacy and security) is the only option I can think of at the moment that would cause preloading. That and
opera://flags/#enable-new-preconnectmaybe. -
