Sidebar keyboard shortcuts

Is there any way to open the sidebar apps (Messenger/WhatsApp/Telegram/VK) using the keyboard? I am used to using ctrl-tab, ctrl-shift-tab to switch between my tabs, but it is frustrating that there is no shortcut to open these overlays. Possibly ctrl-alt-tab to open/close the sidebar, then cmd-tab to switch between the sidebar apps?
In addition, these overlays seem to have rather an annoying behaviour for cmd-F search: pressing cmd-F opens search in the background tab, but leaves the cursor in the chat overlay, so typing to search then hitting enter will send the search term as a message. Ideally the overlay should have its own search function, or at least disable the search functionality.
