Using API To Remove Tab (X) Button

Hi, I would like to use the api to develop a personal extension to remove the (X) button on tabs.
https://dev.opera.com/extensions/tab-window/I'm not sure how to approach this. I really don't like the (X) button and am trying to find a simple way to remove it. I didn't see an option so I thought about just tossing together an extension. Does anyone have any pointers?
