Well, it was working, then Opera upgraded itself last week to v. 44.0.2510.1449 and now I can no longer see CNN video. After a similar failure I had previously installed the chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra_58.0.3029.81- which did make it work.

I have double checked and this codec is installed as too flash.

Any ideas what I need to do to fix this - don't want to go back to Chrome !

      Many thanks !

If the problem is the missing widevine plugin, why don't you install the chromium-widevine package (provided that the distro's repo has it)?

I do not know what distro you are on, but debian does have it. Ubuntu does not. On the other hand, debian does not have chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-* ...

@jimunderscorep Thanks for that. I am on Mint 18.1 which is built on Ubuntu 16.04. Can I use the debian version ?

To be honest, I would not risk it, despite the fact that today (May 4th) their source packages are on the same version. It may work, it may not work.It is the same reason I have not risked installing ubuntu's chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-* packages on my debian installation.

However, If you are willing to try, here is the link to the package

                https://packages.debian.org/stretch/chromium-widevine
