Yes... I was pleasantly surprised by Edge's reader mode. I'm not going back to Edge just for the reader mode, but this would make a nice addition.

This feature is native and it is very well implemented in Safari for macOS.

Where is this reader mode in Safari? I do not see it anywhere. I have looked in the Preferences everywhere and in all the menus. Do you mean preview as PDF?

I would love to see the feature in Opera.

@concretable The icon with three and a half lines to the very left of the address bar.

What I have immediately to the left of the address bar is a Toggle Web Inspector button. Maybe reader mode is only for Windows?

@concretable Oh, I thought you were asking about Safari. No, there is no reader mode on Windows either. I am sure Opera will introduce the feature on all platforms if they do.

I was asking about Safari. With Safari on MacOS 10.12.5, I see no icon with three and a half lines next to the address bar. What is there is a Web Inspector toggle button.

I see. With many sites it does not show up at all. If I mouse over the left end of the address bar when that symbol does not show up, I get a plus sign.

@concretable You have that right. It is not available for all pages, although I have never encountered it when I wanted to use the feature, so I am assuming it is unavailable only for pages that are poorly designed.

Clearly extension or Readable... bookmarklet could do it.

This has to be one of the most frustrating omissions in Opera.

Yes, there are extensions two available but both are seriously flawed. I find myself going back to Firefox when I need to read long articles online (FF reader view is perfect!).

                          Reader View
                          https://add0n.com/chrome-reader-view.html

This adds an icon in the address bar and works reliably EXCEPT (1) for some reason the developer limited the maximum font size to quite a small font and (2) for some reason article titles and subtitles are missing.

                          Reader View (offered by www.bernardi.cloud)

                          (from https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/reader-view/gfaafookaidboehhnhojbebjpjbnnfgl)

"This is a porting of Firefox Reader View"

If only this were true! This provides a far better view BUT (1) it is not reliable - you usually have to reload the tab once or twice to get the icon to activate, and (2) the "Sepia" background is anything but and is annoyingly far too bright. With these issues fixed it would be perfect.

@thunderclutch: Yeah, these extensions are not that good...

                            Reader View by bernarpa
                            pros:

                            • adds icon in adress bar
                              cons:
                            • No images are displayed on some sites
                            • on some articles it omits the title
                            • some small images and icons are messed up and shown very huge

Reader View by rneomy (currently my favourite)
                            pros:

                            • big letters
                            • good readability
                              cons:
                            • icon within many other extension icons if one has lot of installed extensions
                            • no images on some sites

I just saw a tiny intelligent snipped (CSS) on Twitter. Perhaps reader-mode not that "hard" to come by, but then again internet is wast so probably it might take time to sweeting it correctly.
