That problem is caused by a bug in the nouveau driver. If you're able to, you can get rid of the bug by installing the binary driver from the graphics card manufacturer. It looks like you have AMD, at first I would have suggested this guide https://wiki.debian.org/ATIProprietary#Debian_8_.22Jessie.22, but then I saw that it stated that it's incompatible with the GNOME desktop. One workaround is to run Opera from the terminal like this:
opera --disable-gpu
@avl: When will this bug be fixed? It's been there for a while now.

Ok, good but Chrome/Chromium runs good on "noveau" but Opera which is based on Chromium hangs. It's not just me using noveau. This driver offers linux and this we are using. No one will write another driver. The appropriate driver for ATI is not working for me and other ati video cards of the same class. I think it needs newer devices to work.

well..
It's obvious that this has nothing to do with gnome..This has to do with some nasty bug in opera.
Chrome works well"

Of course it's Opera bug. Chrome/Chromium works well. Since Opera became based on Chromium, it became heavy and buggy browser. Also when i turn on "Data savings" feature it can't open some websites. I stopped using Opera long ago. But i'm using it on my phone. It's awesome there. No 1!
