I had about 6 tabs open for about 5 hours and the response and scrolling was so slow as to be unusable. I checked a different browser and it was fine. When I closed every tab but one, it got better.

What do you think?

I have noticed a slow-down in newer versions, too.
In Opera 34, my cpu pegs at 100% for a full minute when I open Opera. It takes 20 s just to display my speed dial. It also maxes out the cpu for an excessive time when loading web pages, with or without Turbo.
By contrast, with Opera 25, the cpu runs at 100% for 6 seconds on startup.
What a bummer if opera is getting too bloated to run on older machines. Mine is a single core 1.6GHz Lenovo from 2009.
