      Go to the settings page first.

      Then, you must enter the "konami code" in order to activate the power user settings. You do this by entering these characters in this combination on your keyboard: arrow up, arrow up, arrow down, arrow down, arrow left, arrow right, arrow left, arrow right, b, a. (↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → b a)

      Now some more settings will show up, including the "Hide the search box in Speed Dial" setting.

          Hi @hartmuthaase, you can simply go to the opera:settings/powerSettingsOverlay, and accept the warning by clicking the "I Understand, Proceed", scroll down to the "Start Page" section, and tick the checkbox on the left of the "Hide the search box in Speed Dial" 😉

          Additionally, if you want to have the PU settings available every time, when you visit the Settings page, then go down to the bottom of the Settings page, and under the "Advanced settings", tick the checkbox on the left of the "Always show power user settings" :cheers:

            I don't have it. Looks like Opera 32 dev is different.

              In Opera 12.16 I simply could add a search engine and make it default.

                Did you really follow all steps l33t4opera wrote?

                Of course it is, but this setting is the same.

                  In the "Start Page" section I can tick something like "preload Discover-contents" and "speed dial animation ..." and set the number of colums, but I can't tick "Hide the search box in Speed Dial". It's simply not there.

                    @hartmuthaase:

                    Then you haven't activated power user settings.

                    Go directly to this page: opera:settings/powerSettingsOverlay, and press "I understand, proceed". Then it should show up.

                      Maybe because my Opera speaks German, I don't know how to get to opera:settings/powerSettingsOverlay. With Alt+P I get the settings page. In the left column I see "Settings", a search field and 4 sections "Browser, Website, Safety, an Opera-Help". At the bottom of the Browser section I can tick "Externded Settings". But where is powerSettingsOverlay ?

                        @hartmuthaase: copy the opera:settings/powerSettingsOverlay, and paste it into the address bar, and then press Enter 😉

                          I see, but that does not solve my problem. Whenever I open a new Tab or klick on Startpage I do not want to see google or any other predefined search engine but mine (i. e. ixquick).

                              It's a pity. Any other browser (including Opera 12.x) can do it. Does Opera belomg to google now?
