If you don't want it simply don't use it.

I guess it's a bit strange to have a google bar there if you have another default search engine, so I think Opera should make so it changes to the search engine the user has as default.

And the reason julienrbt want to remove it is properly the same reason why opera made users that are in power user mode able to remove the search box in speed dial.
