I installed Opera on a new hard drive and forgot how I got rid of the extra search window. Can anyone please direct me to a link or explain how to do this? Thanks!

Enable the power user settings on
opera://settings
.
To enable it type the konami code.
First focus outside of the search box, then type: ↑↑↓↓←→←→ba.
Once power settings are enabled you can use the setting to disable the search box. -

I tried putting "opera://settings" into the URL window but it brings up a screen saying:
Client not found!
Please choose your Opera version:
Opera for desktop
Opera for mobileI am using: Version 12.16, Build 1860, Platform Linux, System x86_64, 3.13.0-24-generic

Fixed it!
I replaced my ".opera" folder with the one that I had in my "old" hard drive.
Oddly enough the Version & Build are the same!?! Well, whatever, it worked.
Of course I still don't know how I zapped the window before and that makes me crazy... maybe it will come to me or someone will tip me off. I know I didn't do the up up down down routine. -

Go to 'Settings / Preferences... / Search' and highlight the search engine that appears at the top of the speed dial page, then click the 'Details' button and remove the tick in the 'Use as Speed Dial search engine' option.

YES! That must have been what worked for me before. Thanks for posting it to remind me and so everyone can benefit.
