Email verification fails to arrive

I lost my main Google account to a hijacking back in August, which naturally led me to change the associated email address for most of my accounts – including my Opera account – which was a largely painless process as I recall.
Now that I once again have my old Google account back, I am trying to change the associated email back to what it was, but, in spite of being informed to the contrary, the verification link continuously fails to arrive in my inbox – no matter how long I wait, nor how many times I ask for it to be resent.
Any help with this issue is greatly appreciated!
