inconsistent tab placement in vertical tabs since the relocation of the new tab button

There is an inconsistency in the way the browser handles newly opened tabs in vertical tabs since the new tab button is on the top of the tabs list. On the one hand, new tabs (opened by the button or by the keyboard shortcut) now open on top of other tabs, so older tabs are at the bottom and newer ones are above. But if I open a new tab from az already opened one, e. g. by clicking on a link in an article, that tab will open below the existing tab (from which it way opened). I am not talking about tab islands, just plain old, simple tabs. The result is that different kinds of new tabs open in different directions from existing tabs, which is pretty confusing. Why not just open every newly opened tab above the old one, regardless of whether it is a "New tab" or a tab opened by clicking on a link?
