(Is this the right forum? I dunno. But I see other feature requests here...)

Whyever on earth has Opera decided that Shift+Click will open a new window instead of a new tab? This is one of the single most annoying things about Chrome. In Opera, Shift+Click should open a new tab, just like v12 and before.

I watch colleagues using Chrome regularly (every few days) as much of our corporate resources on web-based and we all have laptops. And I almost never see someone wanting to open a new window: almost always they want a new tab.

Shift+Click should open a new tab. Saying it is a context-menu click away is woolly thinking. Surely you have some metrics about how test users are using your product. I will bet that the right-click context menu is most often opened to open a link in a new tab.

There has been some defense of using Shift+Middle-Click. This is still not as straightforward as Shift+Click. Plus it is difficult on a trackpad. Or impossible.

Shift+Click should open a new tab, not a new window.

      (Should I file a bug-report?)

      Wade.

If you don't want to use the middle mouse button there's also Ctrl+Shift+click, maybe it's easier, just lay the finger a little differently.

This is the kind of change that really annoys upgraders.

Instead of keeping shortcuts the same out of consideration for loyal users who have been using Opera for a decade, they change shortcuts in new versions to suit Chrome or Firefox users who might migrate to Opera.

At least give us the option to modify shortcuts so that we can fix them to what we used to have.

Now, Ctrl + Click will open a new background tab, and Ctrl + Shift + Click will open a new foreground tab.

            Agree 100%.

I am using both 12.17 and 21 in parallel for the time being, and this (along with the "1" and "2" keys in the numeric keypad not working for switching tabs) just drives me nuts.

Enable the advanced keyboard shortcuts in the settings.

I stand by my original comment: Shift+Click should open a new tab. That's still easier than Shift+Ctrl+Click. Please listen to your users! Opera has in the past led the way in UI that other browsers have now adopted. Not in everything, but some. Perhaps this is one more where Opera needs to say "the other major browsers are not correct anymore".

Thanks, but I already have that enabled. The issue is in 21 that only works on the alphanumeric number keys above the qwerty keys, not the numeric keypad on the right. On 12.17 you can use either.

No, as I didn't really consider it a "bug" as technically the key codes are different.
