[Request]Opera GX on Linux

Totally feel you on this one. With more gamers jumping to Linux lately, it kinda sucks that Opera GX hasn’t opened things up for us too. It would be awesome if they let Linux users test things early and give feedback like everyone else. We’re all here to help improve the browser, so why not let the whole community pitch in?

@SarahJacob Just use Vivaldi: https://www.vivaldi.com

@Blaaaaaaaaaaaaa The Opera One is much much better than Vivaldi in every aspect. So there is no point to use it since Opera One give almost the same experience. So the point is not to suggest something that is fork of Opera. Point is to just tell Opera developers that Linux needs Opera GX since as almost everyone saying, there is switching to Linux by gamers and there will be, from Windows, like me. IIII use Opera One, BUT that is not the same as Opera GX. So we need to urge for Opera GX to be available on Linux!

Opera GX has become a bloated mess. I have moved to librewolf. I take back my request

I agree too! It's a wonderful browser but it can't be used on Linux! It's an absurd!

Let me now add, since it's been awhile, that I now have Zen browser with transparency loaded and looking beautiful but I still can't get OperaGX or, now, Opera Air. Like, that one is built on Opera One. There is no legit reasoning on this. Yeah, I've made Vivaldi "look" like GX, but it's not the same. No pinboards, sync is out of whack, etc. And yes, everyone
That's what they go by.

@Boomsplodebagle Opera and GX aren't open source but they're based on Chromium, which IS. Theoretically, you could fork Chromium and work your way up from there.

I would love for Opera GX to be available on Linux.
The only thing that holds me back from fully switching to Linux is Opera GX and Game Pass. The regular Opera has a Linux version, so why not Opera GX?
(Opera GX is even on Mac, while according to the Steam Hardware Survey, there are more Linux gamers then Mac gamers) -

Crazy to think we've been asking for this for half a decade and still no indication of any sort of plan to bring Opera GX to Linux. I love using it when I'm on Windows, such as when I use my laptop, but I mostly use my desktop, which 99% of the time, is running Linux. Other people here have already made great points:
- There is a growing number of gamers using Linux
- Linux users are more likely to be adventurous with their browser choices than Windows or Mac users
- The Steam Deck exists, it runs on Linux, and Opera GX is made to appeal to gamers. It seems like the NATURAL CHOICE for a gaming browser to be available on the de facto handheld gaming device. Totally a missed opportunity.
I'm not going to go back to being a regular Windows user just for this browser, no matter the fact that it is by far my favorite one, and I've been using Chromium instead. I want so badly to be able to recommend this browser to people, but what's the point if I'm not even using it anymore, myself? I keep checking every so often to see if there's any announcement that it's coming to Linux, and every single time, I am disappointed. It would be so awesome to be able to use the "My Flow" feature to send myself stuff that I can use on my laptop later when I'm not at my desktop. I know there are other ways to do it, but Opera GX has one of the more convenient methods.

Hi Opera GX Team,
Many Linux users—including gamers and developers—are eagerly waiting for Opera GX on Linux. With the rise of Steam Deck, Proton, and gaming-focused distros, there's a strong use case for bringing your browser to this platform. Please consider it!
Kind regards,
A Linux user -
