Opera started crashing on every Linux I use:
- elementary OS Juno
- Deepin 15.9
- Ubuntu 18.10
Symptoms are the same on every system.
I start Opera, it works for 1-2 seconds and then it restarts itself 3-4 times.
No user interaction possible.
Here is my terminal output:/usr/bin/opera [2191:2191:0216/135252.798439:ERROR:x11_input_method_context_impl_gtk.cc(144)] Not implemented reached in virtual void libgtkui::X11InputMethodContextImplGtk::SetSurroundingText(const base::string16 &, const gfx::Range &) [2191:2198:0216/135254.298210:ERROR:ticl-message-validator.cc(212)] registration_digest must be non-empty [2191:2198:0216/135254.298269:ERROR:ticl-message-validator.cc(319)] field registration_summary failed validation in { protocol_version: { version: { major_version: 3 minor_version: 2 } } client_token: "7ZCcYMmE7s+/Z3toIxk55Q==" registration_summary: { num_registrations: 0 registration_digest: "" } server_time_ms: 0 } [2191:2198:0216/135254.298313:ERROR:ticl-message-validator.cc(361)] field header failed validation in { header: { protocol_version: { version: { major_version: 3 minor_version: 2 } } client_token: "7ZCcYMmE7s+/Z3toIxk55Q==" registration_summary: { num_registrations: 0 registration_digest: "" } server_time_ms: 0 } } [2191:2198:0216/135254.298352:ERROR:protocol-handler.cc(145)] Received invalid message: { header: { protocol_version: { version: { major_version: 3 minor_version: 2 } } client_token: "7ZCcYMmE7s+/Z3toIxk55Q==" registration_summary: { num_registrations: 0 registration_digest: "" } server_time_ms: 0 } } Segmentation fault
Don't know what caused this.

Resetting the browser to default state by removing
~/.config/opera
folder made opera stop crashing, but sync seems not to work now.
After typing my credentials, the sync is stuck atsigning in...
(in the main menu) and orange exclamation mark is visible next to user icon in the top right corner (the info here says sync is enabled and that I'm signed in though).
What is going on? -

Now I can confirm the same crash on Windows 10.
Wow, I wonder what will be the cause now...
The only thing all my systems have in common is my opera account... -

I think you will have better luck if you ask at the opera services part of the forum, because your problem is not linux opera itself but its bad syncing with its services.

Thanks for the tip! Seems like others experience the same issue I have.
Already filed a bug report too.
Luckily, on one of all my machines it didn't brake, so I was able to quickly make a backup of my bookmarks and for now, imported them manually back to my broken Opera's. Will now look for a solution to get sync working again. -

Sync started to work again.
Must have been something on Opera's sync servers.
But I really didn't like how the browser crashed.
Luckily, I will have my bookmarks backup safely stored now.
