        Yes. Opera has poor html5 support, it is discussed in many threads at this forum if you check.
        If you want to improve it, install the chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-* packages for your distro, provided that they exist.

          @jimunderscorep do html5 videos work on your machine?

          I installed the chromium-media-libs package on fedora and had to change the path in the ffmpeg_preload_config.json from lib to lib64:

          cat /usr/lib64/opera/resources/ffmpeg_preload_config.json
          [
            "lib_extra/libffmpeg.so",
            "/usr/lib64/chromium-browser/libffmpeg.so",
            "/usr/lib64/chromium-browser/libs/libffmpeg.so"
          ]

          find / -name libffmpeg.so 2> /dev/null
          /home/wadka/.local/share/Trash/files/libffmpeg.so
          /usr/lib64/chromium-browser/libffmpeg.so
          /usr/lib64/electron/1.3.13/libffmpeg.so
          /usr/lib64/opera/libffmpeg.so

          So everything should work, but it still doesn't...

              @wadka92
              No. Unlike the other users here who use ubuntu or fedora or some derivative of them, I use debian which does not package chromium-codec-ffmoeg-*, so I am stuck with opera's built in libffmpeg which has crappy html5 support.
              Thus, altering a file will not help me at all.

                Would VLC codecs work in Opera?
                Changing paths or whatever needed?

                  Or an extension?

                    I do not use vlc, so I have no idea if its libffmpeg.so (if it does have one) will work on opera. I really doubt it will, because that lib will be made for use on a player not on a web browser.

                    As for the extensions, I would only try the first one that says open in vlc. The rest seem iffy to me 馃槙
