Pinboards disappearing

I am liking Pinboards. However, for unexplained reason all 4 pinboard which I created only 3 days ago have disappeared mysteriously. There were no extenuating circumstances during the 3 days between creation and discovery of missing inboards. Pinboards is in Beta development phase so I reported a 'possible' bug.
I looked in the Opera Profile and Cache folders, but could not find an obvious file containing the list of links in the created Pinboards (eg. similar to Open tabs or Bookmarks).
Can someone who understands Opera better provide an insight please? Specifically,
-
where are the contents of Pinboards stored? (Useful to know for backing up)
-
If possible to retrieve/restore provide a 'How To' instruction?

Hello again,
It has happened again! Started Pinboards, added a link into Pinboad1 (this time I did not rename the pinboard), then a couple of days later I ran Opera again, and the link in pinboards disappeared. The Pinboard feature program appears to have reset itself back to the Welcome/Start Pinboard message as if it was the first time ever I selected this feature. Looks like Opera is not reliably storing the information placed in Pinboards. The feature is in Beta testing phase, but I am surprised not more users are having the same problem as per the forum. Is the clearing of the Pinboard information to do with any of the settings I have selected? -

Burnie, I'm having the exact same problem. It doesn't matter what I set up or send to Pinboards, it just won't stick. My content disappears within minutes. Yes, admittedly it's in Beta and a bug is a bug - to be expected in Beta, but I really didn't expect a 'total fail' like the one we're both experiencing. We simply can't be the 'only' ones!! I worry about spending a lot of time setting it up to then have it disappear again. We need to have confidence in it. I'll send a bug report I suppose, hope others have and trust that Opera might get onto fixing this quickly. -

Hi Burnie and others. My Pinboards seem to be performing okay now. I hope I don't lose them because I'm having some teething issues with Pocket Premium at the moment (not sure it's worth paying for), so I'm sort of using Pinboards in place of pocket. It's been okay for what, 2-3 days, but I think it's still too early to say 'it's stable'. I admit, I haven't got much faith at the moment.
I am not signed in for device synchronisation. Hmmm? Should I be do you think?
Opera is a great browser - too good to be dragged down by issues like this. I hope they're onto it and have fixed it - for all time.

@burnie Hi,
Fist of all: Pinboards are stored in two places:- Remote pinboards are stored in a hidden folder in bookmarks
- Local pinboards are stored as part of the site data of pinboard.opera.com
As a result, if you clear site data, you will loose your local pinboards. And if you clear all your bookmarks, the remote pinboards are gone.
So:- Have you recently clear your browser data?
- Or do you have any extension or software cleans browser data automatically? (Ex. computer "cleaning" tool)
- Were the missing pinboards created in a private browser?
Local pinboards are not synced. So they might be gone after a browser reinstall.
Regarding restoring remote pinboard: The only way is if you have the sharing link (maybe you posted it before and copied the link), you can still view that board via the link and you can clone it to create a new board with the same content to continue working on it.
Sorry for inconvenience and please note that Pinboards are still technically in beta and we're working on improving it. -

@kmielczarczyk I too lost all my pinboards. You said there's a hidden place in bookmarks? I have not cleared that, could you tell me where it is? I had a lot of my childs study info pinned. I certainly wish when you begin to use Opera, they would tell you that pinned info is deleted when you clean up your files and run cleaners. Does it do that (clear them) if in a private tab? I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around why create something like pinboards that's so easily erased by a cleaner? Well can't cry over spilled milk, but if you could enlighten me on the bookmark spot and pinned on private tabs, and what not to clear when running cleaners that would be most appreciated.

@burnie this has happened to me as well. I just went to access my students material I had posted, and poof gone. I read in a post that running cleaners that tidy up your system and browsers clear the pinboards. The pinboards should be programmed to be exempt from that, or better yet, Opera should tell you in more detail the do's and don'ts. I see by the posts there are many like us. Pinboards was a great idea until this happened. Now I guess I'm going to have to use an extension.

@assigned-dyke same!! Opera gives no information regarding the do's and don'ts. I thought pinboards was genius... until they weren't. There's got to be away to work around saving them when running cleaners.

Having now read the post from @kmielczarczyk I think I'm going to be giving Opera Pinboards a big miss. I've lost faith, so that's it. This, in my opinion, is a bad reflection on Opera overall. Not good. -

@roo53 I am really disappointed a browser such as Opera would put forth something that seems so wonderful. How are you going to collaborate, share, and such with others if your boards vanish? Or the answer to some of the questions were it disappeared because you cleaned up your browser's cache and cookies. I Loved that feature about Opera, Until.. I discovered my hard work in setting up boards to be shared with students and co workers were gone, and then so many others have the same issue. Opera should disclose the information about the boards disappearing. Well, back to the dang extensions it is. Thanks Opera. Only thing I can say, is if Vivaldi discovers this flaw and the amount of people disappointed by what they lost...

@kmielczarczyk This is in Poor judgement of Opera to create a tool such as Pinboards and Not warn users that clearing site data would delete the boards. That's a Huge flaw on their part. Most people on a routine basis clear and clean their browsing, for some that also includes registry, and so on. Opera should advise or warn or protect. I have to SMH at this blunder that Opera has created. It was a great idea while it lasted.

@kmielczarczyk Technically speaking, Opera should warn users of the possibility of the Pinboards being cleared along with site data. Technically, while under development, we thank you for using us a guinea pig for your experiment. That's a very poor excuse for you to bring to the table, technically speaking, pinboards is still under development. In your beautiful ad, as seen here, https://www.opera.com/features/pinboards Nowhere does it tell the victim or warn that is in "developmental stage" . There is not one word of warning... just a pretty little ad to such someone in to find out they lost all their content and material. That's very... deceptive!

@kathyb We're sorry this happened to you and I see how disappointing it can be. We should do better.
We're looking into this issue and are determined to fix this.
Until we do, we encourage you to use Synchronisation or turn on sharing of individual Pinboards to make sure they're not lost.
