My girlfriend was very scared at the launch. Looks like a virus. Definitely a bad decision.

@forge9 Only way to stop it is to find the file opera_gx_splash.exe and rename it (just add .xxx to the end). That will stop it for the current version, but next update... new version number folder, new opera_gx_splash.exe file.
You won't be able to stop it permanently, Opera's sloppy update process leaves the old folder version number behind, creates a new version number folder with the offending file that creates this abominable annoyance.
The sloppy update process of just creating another version number folder has nothing to do with storage space (minimal effect) but it makes for an untidy directory structure with multiple unused out-of-date folders.

@leocg Remove it from the program, it's awful advertising, not funny and honestly makes me want to go back to chrome, you can't even disable it. Forcing this on people is just going to make them switch to another browser to get away from the awful screeching. Whoever thought this was a good idea needs firing.........
I'll check again in a few days but for now I'd rather use Microsoft Edge than listen to that screaming buffoon. -

@christian-batista It's happening to me too and I don't know how to disable it. The OperaGX sound is already plenty loud and now with this I won't be able to even open OperaGX in public

go to C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\Programs\OperaGX\Version_Number\
And delete opera_gx_splash.exe
It will remove the splash screen entirely and wont play this horrific screaming marketing disaster

@alton09 Thank you for this fix. Can confirm if you open file location on Opera GX and search splash.exe then delete the file you will not get screamed at when you open your browser anymore.
Love this browser but god what a horrible idea, who wants to get their eardrums blown out when they open their browser? (Eric Andre fan aswell, but HATED this) -

Imagine being so completely out of touch that you think this splash screen is a good idea.
Like, I had my headphones on and was listening to music and it was so much louder than my actual music... my ears are still ringing.
Thankfully deleting the .exe file worked. Think I'll have to look into some sort of file monitoring script that runs periodically to check if it gets re-added when this updates.
That or just go back to firefox. I was holding out hope that OperaGX would be a good browser since I heard good things, but I've not even been using it for 24 hours and I've already had my eardrums assaulted.
Not that OperaGX actually cares. Eric Andre probably pays them more money to assault user's ears than they make from their users.
They're welcome to prove me wrong though by publicly apologising and firing the lead who okayed such and colossally idiotic idea. Shouldn't be hard to find him - just look for the guy who doesn't know how to add 2+2

Christ! Thank god for that! Started using another browser for a while there.... they should just get rid of the splash all together for everything.. its annoying as shit and I hate it. And this Opera GGGGGGXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX!!!! nob head really annoyed the shite out of me. Marketing department needs a rethink... unless they are going for the... lets piss out whole user base off in 3 seconds... then job done! Couldn't have done it better myself!

Honestly it isnt that bad, I get that there is some issues in getting it to go away, but I feel like this is a hilarious addition to opera, haters gonna hate I guess!

I use opera GX and recently it has this thing where every time I start it, I get an embarrassment to entertainment blowing my eardrums out. I have the startup animation setting turned off and it still happens. I don't want to go back to chrome but this is so far beyond stupid even if it stopped right now I probably still will.

@tomhan Thank You, this worked! I was going crazy seeing that Eric Andre guy screming every time I opened the browser... I was literally about to uninstall.

The window that pops up when I boot up OperaGX won't stop showing up, even with "Splash screen on startup" off. Is it another setting that I need to turn off?

Ive been having the same issue, some people on reddit told each other to disable it in the files but its not saying I have a file for the splash screen.

it started happening today not by any extensions, no. it just has this very annoying effect when you open opera gx with this person yelling OPERA GXXXX after 2 slash effects.
Its just annoying.
I'm on windows 11 and the most recent version of opera gx

Jesus Ef Christ!!!!!!Whoever came up with this ridiculous idea of putting this annoying character screaming when opera starts running thinking it'll be killing it, deserves to get permanent diarrhea until you make it dissapear. It's super annoying and cringy, and I don't even want to know who the guy is, if it's an singer or whatever, the is the worst way to promote him, I don't want to see or hear anything related to him.
Seriously it makes me want to go back to use another browser, and the worst part, it can't be effin disabled! It's almost like a bug!!!
Opera Team, hear me out! for god sake! Delete That! Delete It Or Else I Won't Be Using Opera Until You Do! It?s Not Funny!!!!!

can we just spam opera support with what is basically "why did you think this update was ok?" Because I've seen talk of alot of people leaving opera GX because of this update alone.
