cannot download on macbook air

a few weeks ago something happened to the download settings and each file I download it doesn't show as downloading, but when I go to the downloads I find the files have been "downloaded" to completion but are not processed further, basically not being able to download the file unto the computer. I wanted to attach a photo of how the opera downloads screen looks but it says error every time i try to attach it. it looks like this - file says 100%complete, under are 2 buttons pause and cancel, making it stuck with no option to continue
