[Opera Mail]Reduce number of newsgroup articles downloaded when subscribing?

I just subscribed to a newsgroup and Opera downloaded 1.5 million articles. Due to it's inefficient storage system, this caused Opera to take 10 minutes to open each time. I had to spend hours cleaning out the messages.
Is there a way in future to make it only download say the last 2000 articles? It used to ask, but once you've told it once, it never asks again. And the preferences are very limited, I can't find where to change this, I assume it's hidden in an ini file somewhere.

@leocg said in Reduce number of newsgroup articles downloaded when subscribing?:
@hucker What do you call newsgroup? As far as I know, Opera doesn't have a newsgroups client.
Or are you talking about an old version of Opera Presto?
I don't know what Presto means. It calls itself Opera Mail, and I've seen it referred to as M2. They stopped including it a while back, then it was released seperately with no updates, but it's still the best newsreader I've ever found so I'm sticking with it.

For each newsgroup account, there will be an incomingN.txt file in the mail folder (where N is the number for the account as seen in accounts.ini). In the file, under [Settings], there's a
max_download=
line, and anask_for_max_download=1
line. You can set the max download that way (while Opera is closed). -
